My only answer that I have for this question, is to just jump right in and mess around with it. And learn your way around the DAW.

Me personally, I don’t throw any songs away for the fact that I don’t know when I might need it again, or might want to take it in another directions.

• My best answer for this is try everything that you think will fit in your song. Now if what you have doesn’t work, and your getting frustrated. Learn how to walk away or even do something to clear your head from your project at the moment and then come back to it. Even listen to other people’s music to get some kind of idea of what you might be missing. Or whatever pops in your head.

This is a question where the answer is you don’t stop learning, you have to keep learning and evolving in your craft to get better. Go through a lot of trials & errors watch and learn from other producers & artists.

I generally would use headphones myself. Personally for the fact that I can hear every sound that is in your song that you are making. And you will know right away if there is a problem with or not.

As a EDM, and a multi-genre producer/Dj one of the main things that I listen for is the beat,rhythm, and melodies of the song. And see if there a musical story that is being told within the song. And then the lyrics to see how much of a passionate meaning that they have.

Do musicians listen to the music of their contemporaries? If you’re a musician actively writing songs right now, will you turn on the radio at some point during the day to listen to recently released songs?

Through out the week specically on the weekend while I’m with my wife, I’ll listen to the radio and see and compare my music along with what trends that are being played on the radio, along with what artists are trending at the moment. And I have my own musicians that I’m a fan of as well. I listen to my own music as well, mostly to compare and analyze what I have written and see how I can do better along with try out new things as well.

That in my opinion would be Taylor Swift. Just by her music her popularity, and her affect that she has with her fans. She is very interactive with her fans. A very good role model for a lot of young kids, and young adults as well.

How can musicians train to hear quarter tones and 8th of tones?

I will admit that I suck when it comes to listening to notes by ear, but the one thing I can say is that if you train your ear to hear and determine the difference between the two you’ll be able to do it. Quarter notes: 1 beat per measure, and 8th notes: are 1 1/2 beats Per measure. But If you keep that in mind and you train your ear to hear this and practice you will get it. I’m sure other people that answer this questoon will probably get into much more detail but basically that’s the nuts & bolts to this answer.

For me it would be any album from Def Lepard, and Led Zeppelin. For Def Lepard there songs from there albums were pretty much on radio and most of them were hits on the billboard charts back in the 80’s. And for Led Zeplin for me the were revolunary that changed music for ever, for me all there songs were powerful to me.

What is “feat” or “ft” in music?

When I was taking classes at Full Sail University, i was taking one of my classes, my instructor said that listening to music is a good thing to do while studying and I had tried it out myself and found it to be very true. listen to instrumental music nothing with lyrics cause the lyrics will more of a distraction to you. But the instrumentals will make you concentrate on what your reading or studying.
